APPLICATION PROCESS
Achieve the best results by carefully following these five steps. Proper prep, mixing, and timing are essential to ensure a smooth, professional finish.
STEP 1: PREPARATION
-
Clean the surface thoroughly using denatured alcohol to remove any oils, residue, or contaminants. Wipe dry with a lint-free cloth.
-
Inspect for dust or remaining debris. The surface must be completely clean and dry before you begin.
-
Assemble your rollers: polyamide for applying, high-density foam for smoothing, and smaller handheld rollers for tight areas. Wrap each roller with blue painter’s tape, then remove the tape to eliminate lint before use.
STEP 2: MIX SOLUTION
-
Start with Part B. Stir thoroughly with the spatula until the powder at the bottom is completely dissolved into the liquid—this step is crucial.
-
Once Part B is fully mixed, pour it into the Part A container. Stir the combined solution until it becomes a smooth, uniform liquid with no residue left on the spatula.
STEP 3: APPLY FIRST LAYER OF FORMULA 131
-
Pour a small amount of the mixed solution directly onto the surface or into a paint tray. Use your polyamide roller to apply the product, working from the outer edges inward. Use smaller rollers around sink cutouts and edges.
-
Once the surface is fully coated, switch to a dry high-density foam roller to back-roll at a slight angle. This will smooth the coating and eliminate air bubbles. Light pressure is key. Periodically dry off your foam roller with a clean towel to prevent buildup.
STEP 4: SECOND APPLICATION
-
Immediately repeat the application process while the first coat is still wet. Use the same method: polyamide roller to apply, foam roller to smooth.
-
Once fully coated and smoothed, leave the surface undisturbed for at least 1 hour. Do not touch.
STEP 5: WAIT 24 HOURS BEFORE BUFFING OR WETTING SURFACE
-
Allow the surface to cure for 24 hours before any further steps.
-
After 24 hours, you may lightly buff the surface using 600-grit sandpaper attached to a Velcro sanding block. Buff in gentle circular motions with no pressure. This is optional and helps achieve an ultra-smooth finish.
KEY REMINDERS
-
Mix thoroughly — no powder or residue should remain.
-
Apply two full coats back-to-back (wet-on-wet).
-
Use the correct rollers and keep foam rollers dry.
-
Do not touch or wet the surface for 24 hours after application.
APPLICATION CONDITIONS
-
The ideal temperature range for application includes ambient and surface temperatures between 60°-85áµ’F (do not apply if temperatures will fall below 50°F within 8 hours of application or adhesion compromise is likely); ideal humidity range is between 40 to 70% RH-high humidity slows dry time; high temps (90°F environment = higher exterior surface temps) may require an accelerated rate of application and application in direct sunlight at those temperatures should be avoided.
-
Under normal temperature and humidity conditions, Formula 131 dries to the touch in 1 hour. In open air, a minimum 24-hour wait is recommended before exposure to stain agents/rain, etc. High humidity and/or cool temperatures will slow the time to full cure, which could extend out to a couple of days depending how extreme.
